Ratu (Tea Stall worker) became a TB agent


Raju Mohanta S/O Hari Shankar Mohanta aged about 18 years from Ward No. 8, Purnaghaty, Rairangpur sub- division, Dist- Mayurbhanj of Odisha. Raju was working in a Tea Stall to assist his family financially. In March, 2012 he had chest pain, loss of appetite, weakness slow fever and occasional blood vomiting with cough for more than 4 weeks. Instead of contacting local doctor he was taken to Cuttack by his family members for Specialise treatment. After several investigations, he continued treatment as per the advice of doctor .But not found any remarkable improvement rather there was loss of weight. Because of their poor economical condition they returned back and contacted local doctor of district

head quarter hospital Baripada on7th Oct-2012.After investigation like Chest X-ray, Monteux and blood test Raju continued treatment as advised by Doctor for illness but not for TB In spite of all treatment he became weak and not in a position to carry out day to day work. The owner of tea stall where Raju was working met Mr. Biswajit Dutta, programme Co-ordinator of SSR, VARRASA of Axshya project of Rairang pur and shared the detail about health problem of Raju. The programme co-coordinator took him to Govt hospital Rairang pur for sputum examination followed by chest X-ray. The sputum test report found negative DMC No. 623/21.11.2012 and X-ray was showing the sign of

TB. Based on which MO, TU started TB treatment under DOTs on 26.11.2012 and T.B. No. 654/12.At the time of initiation of treatment his weight was 37 kg. After four months of treatment his weight increased to 46Kg. He completed full course of treatment . Now he is leading normal life and working as a TB agent in their area. Regularly is referring person having cough to nearby health center for
sputum examination. Within one year he referred 6 people for sputum examination and one found Smear +ve and treated for TB under DOTs.
